Saladin : Noble Prince of Islam
Published in Library Binding by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (August, 2002)
Author: Diane Stanley
Average review score:

Great Book
Great book, pretty good for kids. The book did overlook the fact that Saladin was also a physician and chemist (or alchemist as they used to be called back then). But over all a very good book.

Excellent introduction to a hero of Islam
This is a fine book for young readers who seek an introduction to a hero revered to this day in the Arab and Islamic world and highly respected by historians of the Crusades. Diane Stanley shows how compassionate Saladin was with his enemies even after tens of thousands of civilian Muslims were massacred in cold blood in Jerusalem by the Crusaders (who were fighting for the cross as directed by that era's Pope). His rise to power, struggle to unite Muslims of Greater Syria and Egypt, cunning military leadership and passion to liberate Jerusalem are well explained to the young audience. His adversaries (like King Richard) invovement in the Crusades are well covered, while illustrations that acompany the book are of high quality. Overall, a recommended book for those who would like to know about an enlightened Muslim leader and legend.

Engaging Reading for Youngsters
I handed this book to a low level student today. He devoured it. It's so hard to find really interesting books for youngsters who read at a much lower grade level than their peers. This one is so interesting, it's worth the challenge to a young reader.

A great book for your kids to read and enjoy!
My name is Andy Schlenker, Sammy's Police Officer partner. Sammy and I are still working together in the Modesto CA Police Department. We wanted to let everyone know that we really enjoyed working with Colleen Stanley Bare, and are thrilled to be featured in this book.

We have been to many schools and other events locally where children have seen and read the book. Every child I have met has been thrilled with the book. It is informative, factual, and funny!

The book is filled with many pictures. Some are of Sammy and I working, and some are fun pictures. They all depect Sammy's very unique personality.

I think dog lovers as well as children would really enjoy this book!

Sincerely,

Andy & Sammy

The same reader from below
.... All together, including shipping and handling, it cost me 12 dollars. But if you really like this book very much, it is worth every cent. Now the story described on the back of the book says: Meg like Julie. Really. Which proves that her beautiful, older, adopted sister, is not only a champ in the swimming pool, but out of it. But Meg would like a little of their parents' attention, too. Then Julie breaks her leg, and starts to enjoy a "normal" life. And Meg has a talent of her own recognized, thanks in part to her sister's help. But their hard-won independence is suddenly threatened. Meg realizes the time has come to prove she is a winner, by having the courage to stand up for what she believes in. What they left out is that Meg gets a little taste of romance. Hopefully, this information helped you in some way.

A pleasant book to read
Hello! I read this book in junior high and loved it very much. Since it is out of print, it is extremely hard to find. It is about a girl who fills she is not important compare to her older talented sister. She then finds that her life is taking a turn for the better. I rate it 5 stars.

An excellent cookbook with easy and delicious recipes!
Secret Recipes has been a wonderful cookbook to use. I have made several recipes, as have my friends, and they have all been delicious. Although I have many cookbooks, I usually rely on the same one or two that I use regularly. Now that I have Secret Recipes I am using it almost exclusively. I really enjoy the variety of easy and interesting recipes. I have even tried a few more complicated recipes with amazing success. I highly recommend this cookbook!

Sexcapades of a Lunatic
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (January, 2001)
Author: Stanley A., Jr Kowalczyk
Average review score:

WOW!!!
"sexcapades' is one of those rare combination of fantasy, sexuality, and humor. If sex was ever a comedy then this is the book. Equally enjoyable for a woman's as well as for a man's sexual fantasy. Very effective lesbian plots although this book would be enjoyed by anyone.

About "Sexcapades"
Very funny, much immagination and humor with of course plenty of erotic sex. Once I started reading it--I couldn't put it down. I hope that the author does another book soon--I can hardly wait.

Shakespeare's Bawdy (Routledge Classics)
Published in Library Binding by Routledge (01 September, 2001)
Authors: Eric Partridge and Stanley Wells
Average review score:

Still a classic of its kind, though showing its age
Modern well-annotated editions of Shakespeare (like those in the New Cambridge, Oxford, or Arden series) often explain bawdy usages in Shakespeare which today's reader cannot - yet should - understand. Even so, this area is still often comparatively weak in current commentaries, and this classic provides a great deal of help to the reader who wishes to know more. For a reader who does not use annotated editions at all, the glossary is yet more useful, though such a reader will often not even begin to think about instances of bawdy which would have been readily apparent and intelligible to an Elizabethan. Much does not get explained in Partridge: in that case a curious reader will often find the relevant exposition in Gordon Williams's *A Dictionary of Sexual Language and Imagery in Shakespearean and Stuart Literature*. However, as that is an expensive and difficult-to-use book, many readers would still serve themselves well by buying Partridge's guide. - Joost Daalder, Professor of English, Flinders University, South Australia

A classic on the Bard's bawdy
"Shakespeare's Bawdy" is a classic of its kind. What else would you expect from Partridge? This wee paperback is indispensible, and has yet to be bettered. Think you know all of Shakespeare's puns? Think again!

Shakespeare's Mystery Play: The Opening of the Globe Theatre 1599
Published in Paperback by Manchester Univ Pr (October, 1999)
Authors: Steve Sohmer and Stanley Wells
Average review score:

Great Book
Sohmer, has written a truely great book here. He goes in deapth, using primary sources to explain the social climate during the opening of the Globe Theatre. Using these items Sohmer illuminates hidden themes in Shakespeare's work. He adds yet another wonderful dimension to the Bard.

Great Book
Sohmer does an excellent job in this book detailing his idea of which play opened the Globe Theatre. Agree with him or not, this book is a wonderful exploration to the inner workings of Shakespeare's time and his plays. Sohmer goes into detail of the Elizabethian mind and how it relates to Shakespeare's work.

Shakespeare: For All Time
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (January, 2003)
Author: Stanley W. Wells
Average review score:

Invaluable insights into the man and his plays
Shakespeare For All Time by Stanley Wells (Emeritus Professor of Shakespeare Studies, University of Birmingham, and General Editor of the Oxford Shakespeare series) is an inherently fascinating and extensively informative biography and analysis of the life and work William Shakespeare, piecing together all that is known and much that is speculated about one of the greatest playwrights who ever lived. Illustrated with both black-and-white and color plates, and written in down-to-earth terms for all students and enthusiasts of Shakespeare's work (regardless of their level of familiarity with the plays themselves), Shakespeare For All Time is an excellent read and an especially recommended addition for personal, academic, and community library systems for offering informed and invaluable insights into the man and his plays.

Everything you need to know in one book
Ever wanted to read one book to know about the life of Shakespeare and the life of his plays? This is the only book you need. The world's preeminent Shakespearean scholar at long last presents his knowledgable views on Shakespeare's life and how the different ages, including ours, have appropriated Shakespeare for their own. The first 100 pages are straight-up biography, and a spot-on one at that, providing all of the facts that we know and wise, cautious speculation about what we don't. The following 300 pages illustrate how Shakespeare wrote what he did, and how each age has seen and transformed Shakespeare. Most impressive is that each chapter explores theatrical developments alongside textual and editorial innovations. Not ignored is Shakespeare's representations in visual art, music, and opera. A most impressive volume that is written in an easy to understand style. Any person could pick up this book and understand the history of Shakespeare for all time. Highly recommended as a companion volume is Prof. Wells's earlier exploration -Shakespeare: The Poet and his Plays. That volume discusses each individual play and the poems on an interpretative level, and a highly insightful level at that.

The Sjogren's Syndrome Survival Guide
Published in Paperback by New Harbinger Pubns (March, 2003)

Review of Sjogren's Syndrome Survival Guide
The number of books avaiable on Sjogren's Syndrome are very limited, and this book is a welcome addition. I found it to be informative, easy-to-read, and honest. I liked the frankness of this book as it portrayed a realistic picture of what life is like for people who have Sjogren's. This book covers a wide range of topics and does not make light of life with Sjogren's. I could relate to much of what was written. Also, this "survival" guide does not offer easy solutions on how to "conquer" Sjogren's. It recognizes that Sjogren's cannot be conquered but, at the same time, it provides the reader with realistic and helpful suggestions on how to cope with this illness. It also recognizes both the variability of how the illness affects people, as well as the commanalities that we all may share. My thanks to Dr. Rumpf and Ms. Hammitt for taking the time to write The Sjogren's Syndrome Survival Guide.

Sjogren's Syndrome Survival Guide
This new book offers a wealth of information on both the medical and psychological aspects of Sjogren's syndrome. It gives the reader a comprehensive, but plain spoken, perspective on living with this complex disease.

Dr. Teri Rumpf is a clinical psychologist and Kathy Hammitt is Past President of the Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation. Both authors have Sjogren's Syndrome. Because of their personal and professional qualifications they are able to describe the subjective and objective aspects of the disease.

This book is totally captivating. It reads like a novel. It is guaranteed that the reader will see themselves over and over again throughout the book. The medical section include chapters on how Sjogren's is defined and what makes the diagnosis, as well as chapters on the ways in which Sjogren's affects different parts of the body and the various treatment options available. Chapters on living with the illness include sections on the doctor/patient relationship, relationships with family and friends, and riding the emotional roller coaster with which we can all identify.

Additional chapters discuss adaptation to life with a chronic illness, healing, work, and the hope that research currently offers. There is a section on Resources that is useful to those who are newly diagnosed or to those who have had the disease for many years.

The explanation of all of the abnormal blood work that accompanies Sjogren's, in the chapter entitled "What Makes a Diagnosis," is particularly useful. It answered so many of my questions. The chapter on relationships dealing with family and friends really hit home. Every reader will be able to identify with this section.

The Sjogren's Syndrome Survival Guide offers information in a way that readers without sophisticated medical knowledge or psychological backgrounds can understand, but it does not oversimplify. This is a book that both healthcare professionals and patients will benefit from reading. The authors give a well rounded picture of living with the disease and they do not sugarcoat it. They make it clear that knowledge is power and that is important for patients to be well informed and educated.

This is a welcome addition to the small, but growing, arsenal of books on Sjogren's Syndrome.

One book, even a great one, is not likely to make Sjogren's into a household word, but this one does all it can to explain what it's like to have Sjogren's Syndrome.
